HTeaO

HTeaO is a franchise based in Amarillo that is now doing business in fourteen states. In many ways I like to see Amarillo get the attention it deserves–it not only is my go-to place for steaks but it has some excellent Laotian food. It is the place I learned to drive on ice and where everyone respects the elements enough that you have a near-zero chance of being in an accident involving other vehicles. It is where it makes sense to wear my boots. It is where the most important attribute of the people is to have common sense and where you impress people only by offering good products at a good price.

Like the places where I grew up (Missouri and Oklahoma), Amarillo is certainly not Yankee country, but neither is it in the deep south. Thus I had to wrap my mind around the dozens of varieties of sweet tea sold here–seemingly a Southerner’s paradise. However, this is not the sweet tea of the restaurants and barbecue joints of he South, but it seems to be a never ending flavor experiment of mixing tea with fruit juices to see how much refreshment you can get in the hot climates of the 14 states where the tea is sold (and in this aspect Amarillo seems to be a perfect place for the experiment to take place).

Some of the flavors sold

HTeaO has a display of colors and flavors that give customers the chance for almost endless experimentation. You can get unlimited samples of the different flavors–you are not charged until you fill up one on the various sized containers to take with you. They have various deals where you can bring the containers back and get discounts on the refills. You can also just get a cup with tea in it. I find the experience here the opposite of places like Starbuck’s. Instead of small containers with very big prices, you almost feel that HTeaO is giving things away (and if you only try the samples this is literally true).

More tea choices

Most of the flavors here are subtle–these taste like fruit juices but you are not bombed with sweetness. They probably do have some that are very sweet but I tried many flavors that were not this way.

Peach ginger tea

Just so I would have something to put in the review I bought a cup of the  Peach Ginger tea. If this were the only flavor they had I believe they would do a great business. Obviously, though, I think customers will want to try some more flavors.
