Love Field in Dallas can be a very busy and stressed out experience but they do have you covered in case you have a fairly long layover and want to get a meal. All of the eating places are in the same general area somewhat equidistant from all of the boarding areas in each of the wings of the building. There must be at least twenty businesses that sell some form of food or snacks with consistent high prices in all of them. I found an article on Eater that rated the different eating places and it rated Cool River Cafe as one of the two best restaurants in the airport. It seemed to me that there were only two places that were real restaurants and not high priced snack bars. Everybody has their own kind of food that they like to find in airports but Cool River Cafe has real dishes of Southwest style food where you can get a taste of the local cuisine.
While trying to find any other places that looked interesting I kept going by Cool River’s takeout bar. Every time I passed by the lady working there kept giving me information about gate locations and general information about the airport. I also saw that my best choices for food would be here at the takeout window, and even came with the lady’s recommendations and description of different dishes.
Pulled pork sandwich
The Pulled Pork Sandwich that I ended up ordering had the flavor nailed for Texas barbecue, with the meat and the sauce both giving the kind of flavor I find in the area’s barbecue restaurants. They also have a chicken and a prime rib sandwich. I was so glad that I was able to use my short stay at the airport to have some very good barbecue. Sometimes I do not know if or how the meat is smoked and that is the case here–I am just going by the fact that the meat tasted good and the sauce was spot on. This was all a surprise for airport food.
