Whataburger on Resler
Whataburger is a place that I pretty much took for granted until my cousin and his friends came from Utah and wanted to go there as their first order of business upon entering Texas soil for the first time in quite a while. I always thought the food here was good but I admit that this incident gave me a little bit more appreciation for it.
I think the burgers at Whataburger are respectable and I think the fact that this is a fast food restaurant does not negate the fact that that it is a good choice. The fact that Whataburgers are not spread out all over the country probably helps them keep quality control also.
One reason I am including this review is that I had quite a few experiences with hamburgers in Oklahoma, and I wanted to be able to compare this one with them. The short answer is that Whataburger was very good for the national chains, but I thought many of the local burgers in Oklahoma were a lot better (Johnnies, Interurban, Bricktown Brewery, etc.). I had a recent experience with Five Guys in Oklahoma, though, that made Whataburger seem like fine dining in comparison.
Burgers

Double patty
I think there are many aspects of the Double Patty to like. For starters the meat was fresh and had an actual beef flavor (rather than being like many that taste nondescript). In fact the whole burger was quite good and I was not disappointed in it until I was finished and noticed a slightly greasy taste in my mouth. The charcoal broiled hamburgers and others in Oklahoma have largely eliminated this aspect of eating burgers, but still the one at Whataburger was not bad at all compared to many others.
The lettuce and tomato on the burger had an actual flavor that was noticeable when I ate the burger, and this is one of the things I like about this restaurant. Also the fact that they use mustard as the default condiment means that I do not have to give them any special instructions or make any changes when I order the burger.
I have read on the Internet that the burgers at Whataburger are larger than most, and I did find them to be more substantive than most of the burgers I had in Oklahoma. I had the double patty here, but still I would say this burger is medium to large when it comes to size.

Green chile cheeseburger
So far my favorite burger has been the Green Chile Cheeseburger which you get by ordering green chile and cheese. The green chile goes about three-fourths of the way I like on the spicy level. The burger does have the greasy aftertaste that I usually find here (so four stars for the burger)
Side Dishes
The Fries were fine and were not too greasy.

This salad is huge
The Salad seems too big to be a side dish but I don’t think there is enough to make a meal out of it. It has good ingredients and I took about half of it home to make other side dishes.
Drinks

Milk shake
They had a promotion for a Shake with a flavor not normally served, and I enjoyed it but cannot remember what flavor it was.
Other Comments
I have been coming to this restaurant for years, but some times they surprise me with things like the GCC (green chile cheeseburger).
Although the restaurant is open 24 hours per day, they close a large part of the dining room at 8:00 p.m. and I found the remaining area to be more confined than I really liked in the era of social distancing. I did not feel too crowded with the other customers who were there, but I just wanted a better choice of tables.
In the past I have enjoyed items such as the chicken sandwich which I have not ordered recently enough to write a review.
RATING: 20
Whataburger helped us survive eight years on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Many a weekend did we drive to Mobile, Alabama for Whataburger’s breakfast taquitos. That’s about as close to real Mexican food as we could find in the Deep South. Three decades removed, we still love them.
This sounds like something I would do as well. Many years ago when I was in Oklahoma I used to love taking trips to Texas because it had much better Tex-Mex food (and I hit the jackpot when we went to New Mexico). I’ll try to check out the breakfast taquitos.
