Market Street has several locations in Salt Lake City, and is one of the most popular restaurants in the city. When I went to the original location, housed in a large building built in 1906, it was packed on a weeknight.

The Food
Market Street has a varied menu, but fish is supposed to be one of the best items, especially during spring and early summer when many types of fresh fish are more abundant (I understand Market Street has their fish flown in daily). The large selection of “fresh catches” on the chalk board listing the daily specials helped convince me that this would be a good choice.

The Salmon that I ordered was equivalent in both freshness and flavor to one I had just eaten at Salty’s in Seattle. While Salty’s is probably not the Emerald City’s finest seafood restaurant, I thought it was quite an achievement to bring similar quality fish into this interior city. I think there is good reason for Market Street to be one of Salt Lake’s more popular restaurants.

Recommendations
The large volume of business at Market Street is a major factor in keeping prices affordable (especially for freshly flown-in fish). I would not classify Market Street as “fine dining,” but it is definitely at the upper end of the “casual” category.

Update 2026: The original restaurant (at 48 W. Market Street) is now closed. There are currently two locations of Market Street Grill in the Greater Salt Lake City area, Cottonwood and South Jordan. The Cottonwood location is the closest to the original restaurant in downtown SLC.
